Staff and dedicated volunteers are continually searching for new stories to share with the public. Stories that are shared through our programs, website, and social media posts.
Recent research led to the creation of several new tours — Oh, The Places We’ll Go! which debuted in 2024 and Off the Beaten Path which will be presented for the first time this year.
And new research has refreshed existing tours including All the President’s Men which will return to our schedule after seven years.
Off the Beaten Path will share stories of lesser-known residents and fraternal organizations. Join the new tour on May 21, 2025 and learn about a family of dentists, three generations of merchant tailors, a pioneer in the field of clay animation, a generous philanthropist and more.
Join us on July 19, 2025 for the guided walk, Oh, The Places We’ll Go! Inspired by the travel adventures of Cedar Hill residents, the tour highlights fascinating journeys included an Artic expedition, a visit with Russian royalty, and travels with a famous author.
On the tour you will hear about James and Elmira Terry’s travels. In 1882, they visited Alaska on a six-week trip. They sailed on the steamer Idaho, stopping at Fort Wrangell, Sitka, and Harrisburg (now Juneau). It is said that Elmira was the first female tourist to Alaska.
All the President’s Men, on August 9, 2025 highlights Cedar Hill residents who held positions of national importance at the request of the sitting president. Political rivals Isaac Toucey and Gideon Welles both served as Secretary of the Navy.
Other notable appointments include Commissioner of Education, Democratic National Committee Chairman, Minister to Russia, and Postmaster General.
Join us for these and other thematic tours beginning in May 2025.
