Self-Guided Opportunities at Cedar Hill

Although the Foundation will not be presenting guided walks this season, you are invited to explore Cedar Hill Cemetery on your own.

The cemetery is open daily from dawn to dusk. Self-guided tour brochures are available in the information box located on the entrance drive just inside the gates.

The Guide for Visitors provides information about Cedar Hill’s most famous residents. Notables featured include manufacturing magnate Samuel Colt, Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, Academy award-winning actress Katharine Hepburn, discoverer of anesthesia Dr. Horace Wells, and financier John Pierpont Morgan.

The Notable Trees Guide highlights the cemetery’s remarkable trees such as the beautiful European Weeping Beech, the unusual (for the Northeast) Umbrella Magnolia, and the Huss Hemlock named for a resident of Cedar Hill.

You may also take a self-guided tour of Cedar Hill using your mobile phone. The Cell Phone Audio Tour brochure includes a map identifying the final resting places of some of our most notable residents and instructions for calling into the Guide by Cell system.

You can also locate Cedar Hill residents not included in the available brochures. Go to cemeteryfind.com to access burial listings with a mapping feature.
